Father’s name: Imran (Hazrat Abu-Talib A.S)

Mother’s name: Janabe Fatema Binte-Asad

Born: 13th Rajab (30th Amul-feel)

Shahadat: 21rst Ramazan in 40 A.H

Buried: In Najaf-ul-Ashraf (Iraq)

The commander of faithful, the father of eloquence, the caretaker of the orphans, the shelter of the needy and the perfect of all humans after Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw). Born in the House of Allah, Holy Kaaba, and martryed in the House of Allah, Masjid-e-Kufa. He died on the 21st day of Ramadan 40 A.H. and buried in Najaf al-Ashraf (Iraq).

On the 19th of the month of Holy Ramadan (Mah e Ramzan) of the year 40 A.H, Imam Ali (as) came to the mosque in Kufa for his morning prayers. Imam Ali (as) gave the call for prayer (Azaan) and became engaged in leading the congregation. Abd-al-Rahman ibn Muljam pretending to pray, stood just behind Imam Ali (as), and when Imam Ali (as) was in a state of prostration, Abd-al-Rahman ibn Muljam dealt a heavy stroke with his sword, inflicting a deep wound on Imam Ali's (as) head.

This was the time when Imam Ali (as) uttered his famous words : 

"Fuzto warab-il-Kaaba" - "By the Rab of Kaaba, I am successful".

All the people of Kufa heard the proclaim about Maula's murder. The people of Kufa were running towards the mosque . Imam Hasan & Imam Hussain also ran toward the mosque , both the sons picked up their father and tied a cloth on his wound .Imam Ali told Imam Hasan :

"IBN-E-MULJIM THE SON OF A JEWISH WOMAN HAS WOUNDED ME."

At the time of Iftar when the fast is opened people of Kufa had arrested Ibn-e-Muljim and brought him to Imam Ali . He was in a very bad condition due to thrist. Imam Hasan had brought milk for Imam Ali for his iftar. He gave the milk to Ibn-e-Muljim and said :  

"DRINK IT YOU ARE THRISTY."

Ibn-e-Muljim said : 

"I PURCHASED THIS SWORD FOR 1000 DIRHAMS & POISONED WORTH 1000 DIRHAMS AND APPLIED IT ON THE SWORD. THERE IS SO MUCH OF POISON ON THIS SWORD THAT IF IT IS SPREAD ON THE EARTH , ALL THE LIVING THINGS ON IT WILL DIE."  

Imam Ali (as) suffered from his wound for three days, and He (as) passed away on 21st of the month of Ramadan (Mah e Ramzan) at an age of 63 years.

The crime of assassinating Imam Ali (as) remains one of the most cruel, brutal and hideous, because it was not committed against one man, but against the whole rational Islamic leadership. 

The shahadat of Hazrat Ali A.S affected us all deeply as we lost our guider , king , hope and our saviour. His bravery was exclusive and this envy was one of the reasons why the enemies wanted to martyr Imam Ali A.S. The Holy Prophet S.A.W had prophesied that:

When Ali will be martyred His beard will be coloured red by the blood of His head.
